UCF BEQ and Level 1 energy audits
Hanson provided ASHRAE building energy quotient (BEQ) assessments, which included an ASHRAE Level I energy audit, for 10 of the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) main-campus buildings.
The project involved evaluating the energy performance of the education and general facilities’ mixed modes of operation, generating a baseline and benchmark level of campus energy performance based on the bEQ rating scores, identifying facility improvement measures and developing the standard operating procedures for UCF to engage, teach and conduct student-led energy assessments on the UCF campuses in the future.
UCF students used the program Hanson developed to perform energy assessments on UCF buildings while earning credit hours toward graduation.
Hanson conducted the assessments on UCF’s worst 10 Energy-Utilization Index (EUI) unique-use education and general facilities. The buildings included Millican Hall; the Chemistry Building; the Biological Sciences Building; the Visual Arts Building; CREOL, the College of Optics and Photonics; the College of Sciences Building; the Health and Public Affairs Building; the Harris Corp. Engineering Building (ENG 3); the Ara Drive Research Facility; and the Physical Science Building, a total of 812,334 square feet.
