Shiloh Readiness Center
Project Summary
The new Shiloh Readiness Center serves as a home and training facility for the Illinois National Guard's 445th Chemical Company – a team whose mission is nuclear, biological and chemical detection and decontamination in a wartime and domestic environment.
Hanson provided A/E services for the design and construction of the $8.5 million, 35,500-square-foot Readiness Center in Shiloh, Ill. The firm’s services included planning, architecture, interior design, civil engineering (structural, geotechnical, mechanical and electrical engineering), bidding, construction administration and on-site observation services for the project.
The new facility accommodates the following program elements: an assembly hall; family readiness center; recruiting offices; simulation center; classrooms; general administration areas; kitchen/scullery area; locker room; shower and restroom facilities; unit level work bays; and attached and detached storage units.
The project incorporated current Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection requirements, and it was designed to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Silver rating. Energy-efficiency features included a variable refrigerant volume (VRV) HVAC system and energy-efficient lighting throughout the facility. Makeup air units were equipped with heat recovery wheels, discharge air temperature reset and variable frequency drives. A 400-kilowatt, complete building backup generator also was included in the design.
