Nassau County (Florida) Fire Station 71 design-build

Project Summary

Hanson provided site civil engineering as part of a design-build project to construct a new fire station in Nassau County, Florida. Fire Station 71 is on Chester Road in Yulee, just north of Heron Isles Parkway on land deeded to the county through a public-private partnership.

The county’s eighth fire station provides improved response times to the fast-growing Yulee area. Fire Station 71 has been in the county’s plans since 2004.

The 8,453-square-foot building houses a fire engine, a rescue unit and a tanker and has 11 individual sleeping quarters, 4.5 bathrooms, a common area and an exercise room. Hanson supplied civil engineering design and permitting services for a stormwater management and conveyance system, parking lots and driveways, sidewalks and utilities, as well as traffic signs and pavement marking.

In a public dedication ceremony, Fire Chief Brady Rigdon said, “Fire Station 71 is by far the crown jewel of the Nassau County Fire Rescue Department and one that all Nassau County citizens can be proud of. Several of our members have been involved in the design, which has been ongoing for several years, and the men and women of our department are thrilled to see it finally completed.”
