Charlotte County Airport design-build project

Project Summary

When the Charlotte County Airport in Punta Gorda, Fla., quickly needed to make accommodations for a new airline, they chose Hanson for a unique design-build project.

The design-build project, which included paving, lighting, signage and pavement marking services, was designed and built in four months.  Additionally, all services were completed while working around the existing airport operations.

The project entailed demolishing and removing the existing concrete; installing new, 12-inch thick, reinforced concrete; expanding the apron and adding an additional connector to meet new aircraft turning criteria; and painting ramp markings to accommodate the new aircraft.

Hanson also completed a 500-foot-long taxiway addition to one of the runway ends to provide more flexibility for the airport’s two intersecting runways. The team also helped update runway numbers and signage.
