Mendenhall named Young Engineer of the Year
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Michael Mendenhall, P.E., S.E., a structural engineer at Hanson Professional Services Inc. in Springfield, Ill., recently was named Young Engineer of the Year by the Capital Chapter of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers (ISPE). This annual award is based on educational and collegiate achievements; professional and technical society activities; civic and humanitarian activities; continuing competence; and engineering achievements.
An ISPE member since 2006, Mendenhall currently serves as the president of the Capital Chapter. He also has served as the chapter’s treasurer, secretary, vice president and president-elect. In addition, he has served as chairman of the chapter’s annual fish fry committee for six years.
Mendenhall joined Hanson in 2002, and he serves primarily the company’s infrastructure market and clients, working with local and state agencies. During his career, he has provided planning and design services for many highway bridges and retaining walls throughout Illinois and across the U.S. He has worked on several noteworthy, award-winning projects, including the MacArthur Boulevard extension and the Capitol Avenue corridor design and beautification, both in Springfield, Ill., and the Illinois Route 78 bridge replacement over the Sangamon River near Chandlerville, Ill.
Mendenhall graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) and a licensed structural engineer (S.E.) in Illinois. In addition to his membership in ISPE, Mendenhall also is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL).
