Hanson’s CEO receives engineering organization’s top honor

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Sergio Pecori, P.E., president and chief executive officer at Hanson Professional Services Inc., is the recipient of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers’ (ISPE) Illinois Award.

Pecori was presented the award July 24 during the ISPE’s annual convention in Lisle, Ill. The Illinois Award, the organization’s top honor for an individual, recognizes an engineer who has made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare and/or humankind.

Pecori joined Hanson in 1974 as a resident geotechnical engineer. He became president of the firm in 1998 and was named chief executive officer in 1999. He directs the activities of senior-level management and assumes overall accountability for the firm’s quality of work. He also has served as a project manager and principal-in-charge for a variety of the firm’s projects. He has worked on a wide variety of projects in the U.S. and overseas, including railroads, highways, bridges, dams, communications facilities, environmental remediation, low-level nuclear waste sites and U.S. Department of Defense-related facilities. During his leadership, Hanson has experienced growth and numerous national recognitions.

Pecori has served on the U.S. Department of State’s Overseas Buildings Operations’ Industry Advisory Panel and currently serves on the DOD’s Reserve Forces Policy Board. He is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and has served as senior vice chairman and treasurer. He received the organization’s Executive Engineer designation in 2010. He is a member and past branch president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and is a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is a fellow of ACEC, ASCE and the Society of American Military Engineers.

During his career, he has remained engaged in many charitable and community organizations, including the Hope School Foundation, St. Martin de Porres Center, American Red Cross and United Way. He serves on the board of directors for the Illinois National Bank and Memorial Health System. He also is a member of the University of Illinois Foundation’s President’s Council.

He is actively involved with the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and was named a Patriotic Employer by the agency in 2008. He was a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 Award for the Lake Michigan Area.
