Mendenhall celebrates 20 years at Hanson
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Michael Mendenhall, P.E., S.E., senior structural engineer, recently celebrated 20 years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Springfield headquarters.
Mendenhall joined the company in 2002 and has provided engineering, planning and design for numerous bridges, structures and retaining walls across the U.S., including the MacArthur Boulevard extension in Springfield; the reconstruction of Interstate 74 in downtown Peoria; construction engineering for the tied-arch bridge carrying Illinois 104 over the Illinois River at Meredosia; structural engineering for the new McClugage Bridge over the Illinois River in Peoria; multiple bridge inspections and rehabilitations around the state for the Illinois Department of Transportation; and the Tanana River Bridge in Salcha, Alaska. He also is the project manager for the $450 million Springfield Rail Improvements Project and has provided structural engineering and project engineer support as part of that project.
Mendenhall earned an associate degree in engineering science in 2000 from Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2002 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is a licensed professional engineer in several states, including Illinois, and a licensed structural engineer in Illinois.
He is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois, American Institute of Steel Construction, National Society of Professional Engineers and the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, from which he received the Young Engineer of the Year award in 2012. He is an alumni of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Springfield program and was named a 2019 Rising Star in Structural Engineering by Zweig Group’s Civil + Structural Engineer magazine. He also is a member of the LLCC Foundation.
