Nicol, Petkevicius celebrate 20 years at Hanson

LISLE, Ill. — Andrew Nicol, P.E., S.E., a project manager, and Amber Petkevicius, P.E., a senior transportation engineer, recently celebrated 20 years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc. They joined the firm in 2001 and work at the Chicago regional office.

Nicol provides project management and structural services for the planning, design and construction of roadway and railroad bridges. He has been involved in more than 100 railroad and highway bridge projects, including the widening and reconstruction of a 22-mile section of Interstate 90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) in Boone, McHenry and Kane counties; design of the Tanana River Bridge as part of the Alaska Railroad Corp.’s (ARRC) Northern Rail Extension in Salcha, Alaska; design of a flyover bridge for the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) program’s Beltway Corridor and construction management of the CREATE WA4 Panhandle track project. He is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction, American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association and its Technical Committee 9: Seismic Design for Railway Structures, Structural Engineers Association of Illinois and the Western Railway Club. He also represents Hanson as an industry partner at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s (UIUC) Rail Transportation and Engineering Center. He received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2001 from UIUC, is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois and Michigan, a licensed structural engineer in Illinois and a licensed civil engineer in California.

Petkevicius specializes in the design and construction of highways, tollways, local roads, interchanges and complex infrastructure projects. Her experience includes intersection and interchange design studies, traffic impact analysis, specifications, cost estimates and developing and coordinating contract plans for large highway projects. She has worked on projects including the 22-mile widening and reconstruction on I-90; reconstruction of the I-90 and I-39 interchange in Cherry Valley; reconstruction of I-74 through Moline, associated with the Mississippi River bridge replacement in Moline and Bettendorf, Iowa; and reconstruction and widening of a 3.6-mile section of the South Tri-State Tollway in Cook County, which involved the design of the Halsted Street interchange. Petkevicius earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2001 from UIUC and is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.
