Cusick celebrates 40 years at Hanson’s headquarters

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Robert Cusick, P.E., S.E., an executive vice president and the chief technical officer at Hanson Professional Services Inc., recently celebrated 40 years of service at the firm’s Springfield headquarters.

Cusick joined Hanson in 1976 as a structural engineer and has served as principal, project manager and structural engineer on numerous projects across the U.S. and abroad. He was named chief technical officer in 1998 and corporate ethics compliance officer in 2012. He oversees Hanson’s human resources and project delivery services operations and coordinates the firm’s disaster relief and recovery services for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Notable projects he has worked on during his career include the structural design of the Sangamon County Complex in Springfield, renovation and structural rehabilitation of Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), design of bridges in Saudi Arabia, design of coal silos in China and an underpinning design for a nuclear cogeneration plant in Midland, Michigan.

In 2008, Cusick was recognized with a Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association at UIUC. Also that year, he was named a Patriotic Employer by the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Throughout his career, Cusick has belonged to and held leadership positions with a variety of professional organizations, including the American Concrete Institute, American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois, American Society of Civil Engineers, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Prestressed Concrete Institute and Structural Engineers Association of Illinois. He served on Springfield’s Cool Cities Advisory Council, the Springfield and Sangamon County Board of Directors, Illinois Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors, St. John’s Hospital’s Advisory Council and Bank of Springfield’s board of directors and was chairman of the Lincoln Land Community College Foundation’s board of directors.

Cusick received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 1974 and 1976, respectively, from UIUC. He is a licensed professional engineer in several states, including Illinois, and a licensed structural engineer in Illinois.
