Hanson selects four employees for leadership positions

Hanson Professional Services Inc. has named four employees to leadership roles.

Michael Flatt, P.E., S.E., PMP, LEED AP®, has been promoted from assistant vice president to vice president and to the role of chief project management officer. He will oversee the company’s project controls, governance, administration functions and team and will lead project management training. Flatt, who previously worked for Hanson for 10 years before rejoining the firm in 2006, works at the Springfield, Illinois, headquarters. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in structural and geotechnical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a member of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers. He is a licensed professional engineer in several states, including Illinois; a structural engineer in Illinois and Alaska; a certified project management professional; and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design accredited professional (LEED AP®).

Mina Biggs has been given the new title of chief people officer. Biggs, who also is a vice president at the company, joined the firm’s Springfield headquarters in 2015. She brings over 25 years of experience, leading all aspects of Hanson’s people and culture agenda, including talent planning, leadership development and the execution of strategies that enhance cultural and organizational transformation. She earned a bachelor’s degree in management from Northern Illinois University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

John Coombe, P.E., S.E., F.ASCE, has become the corporate quality assurance officer and will be responsible for directing the company’s quality assurance programs and protocols. Coombe, who joined the company in 1978 and works at the Sarasota, Florida, office, also is a senior vice president and a senior principal consultant. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a licensed professional engineer in Florida and Illinois and a licensed structural engineer in Illinois. He is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a member of the Florida Engineering Society and the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Dennis Hollahan, a vice president and Hanson’s general counsel, has taken on the additional role of chief risk officer. Hollahan, who joined the company in 2008 and works at the headquarters in Springfield, will maintain the firm’s risk assessment and management policies and procedures. As general counsel, he leads corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives, provides senior management with advice on company strategies and implementation and oversees the work of outside counsel. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School. He is an Illinois licensed attorney at law and a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
