Coburn joins Hanson’s Chicago office

CHICAGO — John Coburn, EIT, engineer intern, recently joined Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Chicago regional office, serving the firm’s infrastructure market. He will assist Hanson’s roadway team with the widening and reconstruction of Interstate 90 in Illinois’ Boone, Kane and McHenry counties.

Coburn was a graduate research assistant and teaching assistant for the civil engineering department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where his research focused on transportation safety topics. He also was an undergraduate student intern at the Mid-America Transportation Center and the Nebraska Transportation Center, both located at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During that three-year internship, he worked on projects involving geographic information systems, railroads, flooding, analyzing traffic data and assisting engineering outreach programs for middle schools and high schools.

Coburn has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a master’s degree in civil engineering, with an emphasis in transportation, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a two-time recipient of the Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship. He is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Transportation Research Board.
