Whalen celebrates service anniversary with Hanson
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Dan Whalen, P.E., a senior vice president and principal of the power and industry market at Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Springfield, Ill., headquarters, recently celebrated a cumulative 25 years with the company.
Whalen worked for Hanson from 1988 to 1998, then rejoined the firm in 1999. He previously managed Hanson’s materials testing and construction quality control department and the Kansas City metropolitan office. He was named a vice president and market principal in 2012 and promoted to senior vice president this year.
As market principal, he oversees project planning, permitting, design and construction support services for Hanson’s industrial and power generation and transmission clients. He also has provided geotechnical engineering, project management, site evaluations, quality control and other services for a variety of projects throughout his career at Hanson, such as the Clark Bridge in Alton, Ill.; the State Farm Corporate South complex development in Bloomington, Ill.; U.S. Department of Defense Ground Wave Emergency Network site investigations; low-level radioactive waste disposal facility projects throughout the U.S.; liquefied natural gas tank projects around the world; and numerous projects for Ameren Corp., AT&T Inc., BNSF Railway Co., and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Whalen received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1984 and a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering in 1985, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and recently was named to UIUC’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association board of directors. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois and Kansas. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers.
