Hanson’s Boyd earns 40 Under 40 award

MAITLAND, Fla. — Nate Boyd, P.E., CPMP, LEED AP®, a mechanical engineer and an energy specialist at Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Orlando regional office, recently was named a recipient of Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine’s 2016 40 Under 40 award.

In its ninth year, the award recognizes 40 engineering and building professionals age 40 and younger for their dedication to their professions and communities. Profiles of the winners are in the magazine’s May issue, and awards will be presented Oct. 4 at a ceremony in Chicago.

Boyd joined Hanson in 2015 and aids clients in the development of energy conservation master planning and performs energy auditing and commissioning services. He has provided services for projects including energy roadmaps for Florida Hospital Orlando and the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, an energy management system for the city of Orlando and the measurement and verification of central cooling plant upgrades for East Carolina University.

He received an associate degree in engineering from Valencia Community College and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He is a licensed professional engineer in Florida, a Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design AP (accredited professional).

He is a member of ASHRAE’s Building Energy Quotient Committee and chair of the handbook subcommittee for Technical Committee 7.6: Building Energy Performance and of the Commercial Building Energy Audits subcommittee. He also is the immediate past president of ASHRAE’s Central Florida Chapter and the Region XII vice chair of ASHRAE’s Grassroots Government Advocacy Committee. He is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and International Facility Management Association and is a founding board member of the Central Florida Energy Efficiency Alliance, for which he is the professional society sector chair. In 2015, he received ASHRAE’s inaugural Young Engineer in ASHRAE Award of Individual Excellence.
