ZweigWhite magazine selects Hanson’s Bialobreski as Rising Star

PEORIA, Ill. — Kurt Bialobreski, P.E., PTOE, a traffic engineer at Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Peoria, Ill., office, recently was selected as a 2014 Rising Star in Civil Engineering by ZweigWhite’s Civil + Structural Engineer magazine.

Bialobreski and 14 other Rising Stars in civil engineering received certificates and were highlighted in an article in the April issue of Civil + Structural Engineer. The magazine also selected 15 Rising Stars in the structural engineering profession.

This is the third year for Rising Stars, which recognizes 30 engineering professionals in the U.S. who are 40 years old or younger and who have demonstrated exceptional technical capability, leadership ability, effective teaching or research or public service benefiting the civil and structural engineering professions, their employers, project owners and society.

Bialobreski was recognized for his contributions to traffic engineering, including his design of the first High-Intensity Activated crossWalK (HAWK) signal in central Illinois, which combines pedestrian crossings with traffic signals; and involvement with Illinois’ first multi-lane roundabout on a state highway, which is in Rockford, Ill.

In 2012, Bialobreski was named Young Engineer of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Central Illinois Section. He is a member of ASCE, the American Public Works Association, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association policy committee for autonomous vehicles and vehicle-to-vehicle communication and the Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee in Pekin, Ill. He has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
