Hanson’s Matthew Dawson receives 40 Leaders Under Forty recognition

PEORIA, Ill. — Matthew Dawson, P.E., PTOE, transportation engineer, recently was recognized as one of 40 Leaders Under Forty by InterBusiness Issues magazine, a publication of Central Illinois Business Publishers, based in Peoria, Ill.  The annual award is given to candidates based on their contributions to local businesses and the community in which they reside.

Dawson serves as a transportation engineer and technical design lead for Hanson Professional Services Inc. in Peoria. He has worked on major, high-profile projects throughout Illinois and across the nation.  His involvement in local projects includes the Interstate 74 reconstruction through downtown Peoria, Northmoor Road reconstruction and expansion, and the Washington Street and TIGER II Warehouse District redevelopment projects.

Dawson also serves on the board of directors for the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Illinois Valley Branch, acting as past president and membership chair.  In 2010, he helped prepare ASCE’s Report Card for Illinois Infrastructure, a report that informed the public and policymakers about the condition of the state’s infrastructure and recommended solutions.

He has participated in ASCE’s annual Index Card Bridge Building contest that targets local middle-school students and helped organize and expand ASCE’s annual canned-food drive.  Additionally, Dawson served as the practitioner adviser to Bradley University’s ASCE Student Chapter for more than eight years.  He was named the ASCE Outstanding Practitioner Adviser of the Year for Zone III in 2001 after being selected from nominees representing 14 states and Mexico. He also has led or assisted in several outreach events at local grade schools, including Riverview Grade School’s Science Night and Keller School’s Exploremore Day. He graduated from the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce’s Community Leadership School in 2011.

Dawson earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2000 and a master’s degree in civil engineering in 2010, both from Bradley University.  He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois and a certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).

“Matthew Dawson is a leader at work, in his profession and in his community.  He inspires others by his example to advance and contribute and by his commitment to service.  As an engineer, he has continually accepted new challenges — working on important, high-profile projects and delivering quality work to Hanson’s clients. Matthew has and continues to leave his mark on local and state transportation infrastructure projects that are critical to Illinois’ growth, viability, safety and sustainability,” says Cindy Loos, P.E., a regional vice president at Hanson.
