Hanson wins two APWA Illinois Chapter awards

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Illinois Chapter recognized Hanson Professional Services Inc. for its work on two projects during the chapter’s annual awards banquet May 5 in Peoria.
Hanson received two Public Works Project of the Year awards in the transportation category. The first, under the division for projects that cost $5 million to less than $25 million, is for the Carpenter Street underpass in Springfield. Hanson provided design and construction engineering services for the underpass between Ninth and 11th streets, which was opened to traffic in August. This underpass is the first stage of the Springfield Rail Improvements Project and provides improved access to Springfield’s medical district and reduces delays for emergency vehicles.
The second award, under the division for projects that cost less than $5 million, is for the Bowman Avenue improvements in Danville that were completed in September 2015. The street was widened from Crestview Drive to Winter Avenue and given storm sewer and curb and gutter throughout, a shared-use path, bus turnouts and landscaping. Hanson provided engineering and environmental studies, public involvement, drainage design, right-of-way layout and design, and preliminary and final plans for the project.
