Hanson promotes McDonald to assistant vice president

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s board of directors recently named David R. McDonald Jr., P.E., PTOE, Ph.D., an assistant vice president.

McDonald, a chief roadway engineer, works at the firm’s Chicago regional office. In 2012, he was named the technical discipline chief for the firm’s roadway market. He provides design services for highways, tollways, local roads and interchanges; prepares contract documents; and manages transportation projects. He also conducts transportation studies and research and presents lectures on engineering topics at local universities. He has authored or co-authored numerous technical papers and publications.

McDonald received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Clemson University and a doctorate in civil engineering from Vanderbilt University. He is a licensed professional engineer in several states, including Illinois, and a licensed professional traffic operations engineer. He is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois and its Illinois Tollway Committee. He also is a member of the Transportation Research Board’s Geometric Design Committee, for which he chairs the Geometric Design Technical Subcommittee, and is leading the papers subcommittee for the 2015 International Symposium on Highway Geometric Design.
