Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce honors Hanson for outstanding civic involvement

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Hanson Professional Services Inc. is the recipient of the Outstanding Civic Involvement – Business Owner of the Year award from the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
The award, which was presented June 21 during the Chamber’s 31st annual Small Business Awards luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Springfield, honors a business owner who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, community stewardship and positive social and economic impact on the region. Hanson was evaluated on its demonstrated excellence, level of community involvement, leadership, achievement and years of involvement.
Hanson was recognized for its involvement with the Grow Our Own Minority Participation Program, which is designed to encourage and mentor minority youth to pursue internships, college degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related fields. Established in 2013, Grow Our Own is funded by the city of Springfield, Sangamon County and Hanson, with the support of the Illinois Department of Transportation. Hanson has committed to hiring three minority interns each year through the duration of the program and recently hired a Grow Our Own intern for a full-time position.
In addition to Hanson’s involvement with Grow Our Own, the Springfield-based, employee-owned company also is active in numerous business, civic and community organizations, including Children’s Miracle Network, Downtown Springfield Inc., Engineer in the Classroom, Memorial Medical Center’s Festival of Trees, MERCY Communities and United Way of Central Illinois.
