Hanson contributes to Power Engineering’s “Best Coal-Fired Project of 2009”

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Power Engineering magazine named City Water, Light and Power’s (CWLP) Dallman Unit 4 in Springfield, Ill., the best coal-fired project in its 2009 Project of the Year competition, calling it a “significant achievement in the current fossil-fired project-development environment.”  Hanson Professional Services Inc. provided construction management and construction observation services for Dallman 4, one of the cleanest coal-fired generating units in the nation.

Hanson’s construction management services included having personnel on-site during construction and start-up.  As part of the construction observation services, Hanson staff observed the installation of more than 600 drilled pier foundation elements that were installed to support facility components.

“It was exciting to assist the city of Springfield with a project that is important to the future of our community,” says Tracy Lundin, P.E., senior vice president and market principal of energy and industry services.   “One interesting aspect of the project was that Hanson personnel, working in shifts with CWLP employees, provided on-site construction coverage around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, during the 28-day continuous concrete pour of the new 440-foot-tall Dallman 4 chimney.”

Hanson is a national, employee-owned consulting firm providing engineering, architecture, planning and allied services. The Springfield-area office is located at 1525 S. Sixth St., Springfield, IL  62703.  The office may be reached by phone: (217) 788-2450 or fax: (217) 788-2503.
