He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1975 from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in civil engineering in 1978 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a licensed professional engineer in eight states and a licensed structural engineer in Illinois.
