ST. LOUIS — A senior geotechnical engineer, Kipkoech K. Chepkoit, Ph.D., P.E., recently joined Hanson Professional Services Inc., working from the firm’s St. Louis and Springfield offices.  He specializes in managing projects that require geotechnical exploration and engineering, including preparing geotechnical reports and calculating, analyzing and designing soil-structure interaction.

He will work on a variety of navigation, flood control and recreation projects, primarily for federal agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and for a Hanson group of geotechnical and geo-structural engineers focused on serving the U.S. Department of Defense.

His previous experience includes geotechnical consulting work for the numerous U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ districts. He provided engineering for Lock and Dam 25 in Winfield, Mo., and Lock 27 in Granite City, Ill., both for the St. Louis District. In addition, Chepkoit provided floodwall and levee design in the Lake Pontchartrain vicinity for the New Orleans District. He also specializes in major river-structure foundation design, and he has provided these services during several bridge projects – working for state and local government agencies.

Chepkoit has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He also has a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in civil engineering, both from the University of Maryland.  He is a distinguished lecturer, and he has presented a paper at the World Conference on Earthquake Engineering.  Additionally, he is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors, and Portland Cement Association.

Hanson’s Department of Defense market serves the U.S. government providing engineering services for civil works and military projects.  Hanson is a national, employee-owned consulting firm providing engineering, architecture, planning and allied services.
