McDonald celebrates 20 years at Hanson
LISLE, Ill. — David McDonald Jr., P.E., PTOE, Ph.D., vice president, roadway discipline manager and chief roadway engineer, recently celebrated 20 years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc.
McDonald joined the company in 2002 and works at the Chicago regional office. He leads Hanson’s roadway technical discipline group, for which he focuses on strengthening the company’s technical services. He has provided engineering design services and guidance for various roadway projects, including the reconstruction and widening of a 3.6-mile section of the South Tri-State Tollway in Cook County, which involved the design of the Halsted Street interchange; the widening and reconstruction of a 22-mile section of Interstate 90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) in Boone, McHenry and Kane counties; the reconstruction of the Cherry Valley interchange (I-90 and I-39) in Cherry Valley; the reconstruction of Interstate 74 through the Quad Cities; and design corridor management services for the master planning of 22.5 miles of I-294 from 95th Street to Balmoral Avenue in Cook and DuPage counties. He also has served as a quality review engineer for projects in Alaska, Illinois, Indiana and Texas.
McDonald earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 1990 and 1992, respectively, from Clemson University and a doctorate in civil engineering in 1999 from Vanderbilt University. He is a licensed professional engineer in several states, including Illinois, a professional traffic operations engineer and is active with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, for which he has served on multiple Transportation Research Board committees and subcommittees and National Cooperative Highway Research Program panels.
