Serving as a vice president, the environmental practice lead and the chief water resources engineer at Hanson, Tony promotes effective water resource solutions with a focus on water supply studies, hydraulic analyses and design for dams, levees and flow-control structures. A trusted partner for federal, state, municipal and industrial clients since joining Hanson in 2006, Tony has extensive experience integrating hydrologic and hydraulic modeling with geographic information systems to deliver advanced solutions for dam breach and flood risk mapping. Tony has also been recognized for his work on large river and complex bridge hydraulics for state departments of transportation and railway clients.

IN TONY’S WORDS
“I’ve had great opportunities to work on amazing projects to solve all kinds of engineering challenges with some of the best people in our industry. It has been a true honor. I look forward to working on new challenges where we can apply innovative solutions to advance how civil engineers work for future generations.”

Tony has led a variety of impactful water resource projects across the U.S. and internationally. Notable examples include the spillway gate rehabilitation of City Water, Light and Power’s Spaulding Dam in Springfield, Illinois; lock capacity and water-control improvements at the Stratton Lock and Dam in McHenry County, Illinois; the CapX2020 Mississippi River transmission line crossing from near Wabasha, Minnesota, to Alma, Wisconsin; the water- control structure at Emiquon Preserve in Fulton County, Illinois; the new Interstate 74 Mississippi River crossing from Bettendorf, Iowa, to Moline, Illinois; the Tanana River Bridge in Salcha, Alaska; and the McClugage Bridge over the Illinois River in Peoria, Illinois, which included a 2D hydraulics model, one of the first of its kind for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Over the years, national organizations have relied on Tony’s deep knowledge as a technical expert, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. He’s been actively involved with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and was named the 2018 Civil Engineer of the Year Award by ASCE’s Central Illinois Section. Tony is also a member of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials, Illinois Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management, Illinois GIS Association and the Society of American Military Engineers. He serves on the board of directors for America’s Watershed Initiative, which works to find solutions for the challenges of managing the Mississippi River and the more than 250 rivers that flow into it.
