These experiences and numbers reflect Hanson’s 2025 intern class. A dynamic and diverse group that brings fresh energy, ideas and perspectives to our organization, these students represent the exceptional potential and diverse perspectives we value in our early talent programs.
“The most valuable lesson I’ve learned at Hanson is the importance of collaboration and continuous learning,” said 2025 Water Resources Intern Meghan Wegner, of Hanson’s Springfield, Illinois, office. “Hanson has a great intern program where employees truly invest in your growth and want you to succeed.”
Collaboration fuels innovation
Our 15 returning interns are a strong testament to the strength of our culture, the meaning of their work and the value of the connections they have made during their time here.
“I’ve been able to collaborate with interns and other employees to solve real-world problems, gain practical experience and expand my knowledge,” Meghan said. “I chose to come back for another year because of the supportive environment and the hands-on experience that have helped me build my skills.”
The interns’ distribution across 11 office locations allows them to engage with various teams, business functions and regional operations. Their geographic spread enhances their collaboration across our company and exposes them to our distinct regional-office cultures and working styles.
Another defining feature of this year’s cohort is their academic diversity, in the form of 22 colleges and universities. This wide range of educational backgrounds introduces fresh ideas and varied approaches to problem-solving, enriching the learning experience for both the interns and the Hanson teams they support.

Shaping future leaders
This year, we’ve introduced our interns to several new elements that reflect our commitment to growth, leadership development and innovation:
- Leadership opportunities for returning interns: In 2025, returning interns will take on a more active role by leading our community service initiatives, with guidance and support from the Human Resources team. This allows them to develop their leadership and project management skills while deepening their connection to our organizational values and community impact efforts.
- Project showcase mentorship: In addition, returning interns are helping to mentor and guide first-year interns during their preparation for our annual intern project showcase presentations, which give interns the chance to share what they’ve learned and experienced at Hanson. Our intern mentors, in turn, benefit from offering insight and encouragement based on their own experiences.
- Innovative lunch-and-learn sessions: Held throughout the summer, these sessions are designed to expose interns to a variety of topics, leaders and career paths across the organization.
Sarah Nguyen, a commissioning and energy intern in the Orlando office, has found a solid learning environment within her team. “I have been going on site visits and meeting all kinds of people who work in construction,” she said. “My mentors are extremely wise and patient when I have questions.”
A taste of real life
Bleu Beckwith, a 2025 bridge engineering intern in the Chicago office, sought an internship with Hanson because he had heard peers speak highly of the program. “I’m excited to apply what I’m learning this summer to my academics next school year and experience the crossover of the classroom with real-world engineering.”
A goal of Hanson’s employees and intern mentors is to treat students like full-time employees. Each internship offers a meaningful and immersive experience with opportunities to contribute to real projects. We value our interns as essential members of our team. In addition to firsthand field training, dedicated mentorship and opportunities to take part in community service, interns enjoy perks such as lunch with Hanson Chairman and CEO Satch Pecori.
Kyle Iamsuri, a commissioning and energy intern at Hanson’s office in Raleigh, North Carolina, speaks to real-life opportunities Hanson offers. “This summer, I’ve gained direct experience in the field while learning about how building systems around me function in an innovative environment,” he said.
“The most valuable lessons I learned at Hanson last summer were to ask questions, seek out opportunities, and not take the real-world experience for granted,” added Alex Moll, a second-year intern spending summer 2025 with Hanson’s aviation group in Indianapolis. “I chose to return because of the positive and supportive environment here. Last summer, I was able to work on many small tasks in roadway design. This year, I was able to reach out to the aviation department and land another internship opportunity that I thought I would be more interested in. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to try something new this summer.”

Proven quality
Hanson is known for offering award-winning internships that receive national recognition year after year through the Vault Careers Internship Program. Vault is a well-respected platform that ranks internship programs based on feedback from thousands of interns across hundreds of companies. Each year, they collect insights on what matters most to interns — such as career development, quality of life, compensation, diversity and the interview process. Using that feedback, Vault builds rankings that reflect a company’s overall intern experience. We’re proud that Vault has consistently recognized our program in several categories.
“I had heard about Hanson’s award-winning internship program, and I could quickly tell that the company valued their interns and invested time and effort into their summer experience,” said Carlie Young, who is serving the Indianapolis office as a roadway intern. “I look forward to site visits and hands-on learning experiences to help me better understand the roadway engineering process.”
As the number of programs participating in Vault continues to grow — nearly 300 most recently — it’s rewarding to see that our interns continue to rate their experiences so highly. We’ve been highlighted not just overall, but also within our industry and for specific role types, which speaks to the strength and impact of the experience we offer. These recognitions reflect the effort we put into building a supportive, engaging and growth-focused environment where interns can thrive and prepare for their future careers.
According to 2025 Roadway Student Intern Lucas Gonzales of the Corpus Christi, Texas, office, his internship has given him an inside view of the reasons behind the decisions engineers make when designing a project. “Asking questions,” he said, “has helped me understand that a seemingly simple design can become more complicated because of client constraints or existing conditions.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to Hanson for my internship this summer,” said Jebii Chepkoit, a student intern in the power market who works in the St. Louis office. “It’s been an enriching experience wherein I’ve learned new skills and had the chance to collaborate with experienced engineers to exchange and develop ideas. Working on real-world projects has helped me build practical skills and gain valuable tools that will benefit me both when I return to school and as I begin my career as a young engineer.
