Serving as Hanson’s electrical discipline manager, Ryan Nation has been leading the firm’s electrical design initiatives across a wide range of industries since 1997. During that time, he has helped to design systems involving power distribution, emergency power distribution, lighting and emergency life safety; fire alarms; security; grounding; surge suppression; lightning protection; and telecommunication systems for governmental, military, rail, airport, transportation, educational and industrial facilities.
Ryan’s key contributions to complex projects include electrical design for the Illinois Air National Guard Civil Engineering Complex, EIS Building and Composite Support Building; a geothermal system for the Illinois Army National Guard’s Camp Lincoln; the University of Illinois Springfield’s University Hall; the Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) Millenium Center, Workforce Careers Center and Kreher Agriculture Center; and renovations to the Illinois State Fairgrounds Coliseum. He has also participated in major infrastructure improvements, such as the Carpenter Street underpass and its associated stormwater pump station, Capitol Avenue’s streetscape enhancements and facility upgrades for the Ball-Chatham School District. His transportation work includes the Springfield Rail Improvements Project, a new BNSF Railway
Co. overpass in Galesburg, Illinois, and electrical engineering for the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory’s MI-31 facility in Batavia, Illinois.
Beyond project design, Ryan has deep knowledge of electrical surveys, basis-of-design reports and specification reviews for educational, commercial, governmental, military and industrial facilities. His railroad experience includes photometric calculations and lighting layouts for the BNSF Orillia Auto Yard in Orillia, Washington, as well as the electrical design of a 13.8-kilovolt underground loop power distribution system with backup service for Union Pacific’s Global III facility in Rochelle, Illinois.
Ryan serves on the city of Springfield’s Electrical Commission, the Illinois Energy Code Advisory Council and the Electrical Board of Missouri and Illinois.
IN RYAN’S WORDS
