As a vice president and Hanson’s geostructural practice lead and chief facilities structural engineer, Dennis Wilkinson delivers structural design services for multistory buildings, foundations, mechanical equipment screen walls, rail and industrial facilities, pedestrian skywalk structures, mezzanines and special supports.
Dennis began his career at Hanson in 2000 as an intern, joining the firm full time in 2001. Since then, he has played a key role in numerous high-profile projects, including the renovation of Union Station, upgrades to the Illinois State Capitol, the Coliseum renovation at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, Memorial Learning Center, Memorial Health System’s surgical area expansion, Springfield Clinic’s Main Campus expansion and First North facility, the Illinois Air National Guard 183d Wing composite support facility, University Hall at the University of Illinois Springfield and the Simmons Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, all in Springfield, as well as Memorial Health System’s Taylorville Memorial Hospital addition in Taylorville, Illinois. His work also includes the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Next Linear Collider in Batavia, Illinois, and the St. Louis Downtown Airport’s aircraft rescue and firefighting station in Cahokia, Illinois. Beyond design, Dennis provides engineering support during construction and leads teams of structural project engineers and technicians.

In 2024, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recognized Dennis as the Civil Engineer of the Year. In addition to his involvement with ASCE, Dennis is an active member of the Central Illinois Chapter of Healthcare Engineers, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Concrete Institute, American Institute of Steel Construction and the Society of American Military Engineers.
