Dawson celebrates 15 years with Hanson
PEORIA, Ill. — Matthew Dawson, P.E., PTOE, a vice president and Hanson’s transportation practice lead, recently celebrated 15 years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Peoria office.
Dawson rejoined the company in 2010; he previously worked for the firm from 2000 to 2006. He manages the roadway, traffic, railway and logistics disciplines within the company’s transportation practice. He also serves as the project engineer on a range of transportation projects and provides quality control review of technical documents and plans for projects throughout the country.
He has worked on projects including the Interstate 74 reconstruction, the conversion of one-way Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue to two-way streets, the Northmoor Road reconstruction and Washington Street and Warehouse District redevelopments that encompassed 20 downtown blocks, all in Peoria; Multimodal Corridor Enhancement project study and design in Champaign and Urbana; numerous roadway and bridge replacement projects for the Missouri Department of Transportation; design support for various Class I railroads; and the reconstruction of several sections of the Illinois Tollway system, including portions of interstates 294, 90 and 88. He serves on the Transportation Research Board’s Standing Committee on Access Management and recently completed two terms on the Standing Committee on Performance Effects of Geometric Design.
He was named the Young Engineer of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Central Illinois Section in 2013, a Rising Star in Civil Engineering by Zweig White in 2012, one of InterBusiness Issues’ 40 Leaders Under Forty in 2011 and ASCE’s Outstanding Practitioner Adviser for Zone III in 2001. He is the membership chair for ASCE’s Illinois Valley Branch and is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 2000 and 2010, respectively, from Bradley University. He is an instructor at Bradley, teaching computer-aided design; he also presents various topics to student organizations and serves on the Civil Engineering and Construction Advisory Board. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Idaho and Missouri and a certified professional traffic operations engineer.
