Illinois Air National Guard 182nd Airlift Wing Peoria Building 620 Repair

Project Summary

Hanson provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering design services for a renovation of the Illinois Air National Guard 182nd Airlift Wing’s Recruitment and Retention Facility inside Building 620 at the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport in Peoria, Illinois.

A primary project objective was to address humidity and comfort issues throughout the building. High humidity levels during the summer had caused mold issues and slippery tile floors, making for a generally uncomfortable building.

Hanson presented multiple HVAC options to the Guard. The recommended solution included adding a dedicated outdoor air system to supply preconditioned, dehumidified, outdoor air directly to each room, improving building pressurization at the room level, addressing the current humidity issue and improving indoor air quality.

The existing furnaces and split system air conditioners also will be replaced with a geothermal heat pump system that provides additional zoning for more individualized room temperature control.

Electrical work included power distribution for the new mechanical systems, as well as fire alarm and telecommunications systems design. Mechanical services encompassed determination of heating and cooling capacity requirements; energy modeling, including a geothermal system evaluation; equipment selections; and equipment layouts within the constrained spaces.

The facility provides office spaces for recruitment and retention operations with applicable conference, administrative, classroom and support spaces.
