Hanson provided site civil engineering as part of a design-build project to construct a new fire station in Nassau County, Florida. Fire Station 71 is on Chester Road in Yulee, just north of Heron Isles Parkway on land deeded to the county through a public-private partnership.

The county’s eighth fire station provides improved response times to the fast-growing Yulee area. Fire Station 71 has been in the county’s plans since 2004.

The 8,453-square-foot building houses a fire engine, a rescue unit and a tanker and has 11 individual sleeping quarters, 4.5 bathrooms, a common area and an exercise room. Hanson supplied civil engineering design and permitting services for a stormwater management and conveyance system, parking lots and driveways, sidewalks and utilities, as well as traffic signs and pavement marking.

In a public dedication ceremony, Fire Chief Brady Rigdon said, “Fire Station 71 is by far the crown jewel of the Nassau County Fire Rescue Department and one that all Nassau County citizens can be proud of. Several of our members have been involved in the design, which has been ongoing for several years, and the men and women of our department are thrilled to see it finally completed.”

Fire stations 70 and 90

Hanson provided site-civil engineering services for design-build projects for two new fire stations in Nassau County. Fire Station 70 is at the intersection of CR 107 (Old Nassauville Road) and Hardy Allen Road in Fernandina Beach, while Fire Station 90 is situated on CR 2 in Hilliard. Both stations replaced aging facilities, using design-build criteria and specifications from a recently constructed fire station in the County as a framework.

The new stations are designed to adhere to current standards, ensuring a safe, functional and comfortable work environment for first responders. Site-civil engineering involved stormwater management and conveyance systems, parking lots and driveways, sidewalks and utilities.
