The city of Springfield, Illinois, is joining the ranks of urban landscapes evolving with ever-changing technology as it embarks on an ambitious and transformative project to create a digital twin of its historic downtown area. A digital twin, a replica of a city’s physical environment, encompasses aboveground and belowground assets to enhance urban planning, infrastructure management and historical preservation. Hanson Geospatial Project Manager Austin Willis, CSM, GISP, talks more about digital twins in his blog post, “Capturing Reality with GIS.”
Hanson is providing data collection, data processing and extraction, modeling and analytical tool implementation and system integration for the city’s digital twin.
