Civil Engineer of the Year, American Society of Civil Engineers Central Illinois Section, 2022
Mike is an assistant vice president and roadway bridge associate discipline manager based at Hanson’s Springfield headquarters.
Since joining Hanson in 2002, he has provided engineering, planning and design for bridges, structures and retaining walls across the U.S. He’s been involved with a wide range of complex infrastructure projects and major river bridges, including the MacArthur Boulevard extension in Springfield, Illinois; the reconstruction of Interstate 74 in downtown Peoria, Illinois; the tied-arch bridge carrying Illinois 104 over the Illinois River in Meredosia, Illinois; the new McClugage Bridge over the Illinois River in Peoria; multiple bridge inspections and rehabilitations around the state for the Illinois Department of Transportation; and the Tanana River Bridge in Salcha, Alaska.
Mike also served as the project manager for the $550 million Springfield Rail Improvements Project and its associated transportation center and greenway projects. In that role, he provided the necessary structural engineering and project engineer support to improve 5 miles of rail corridor through Springfield, including the addition of multiple new rail bridges that eliminated at-grade crossings.
POSITIVE IMPACTS FOR GENERATIONS“Hanson provides a great opportunity to work on major infrastructure projects and develop unique solutions for complex challenges. When these major projects are completed, you can see the positive impact made on communities for generations.”
Mike is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois, the American Institute of Steel Construction, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, which awarded him the Young Engineer of the Year in 2012. He is a graduate of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Springfield program and is a member of the Lincoln Land Community College Foundation.
In addition to his project work, Mike has been a featured presenter for NASCC: The Steel Conference in Atlanta and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association’s Railroad Bridge Symposium in Fort Worth, Texas.
