Promoting innovative solutions and high-quality services in the power industry is a key focus for Dan, a senior vice president and Hanson’s power market principal. With a background in civil engineering and decades of experience, he leads project planning, permitting, design and construction support for Hanson’s power generation and transmission clients.
Dan’s expertise encompasses a wide range of projects, including transmission and distribution systems, wind and solar energy developments, coal combustion residuals management facilities, water supply systems, low-level radioactive waste disposal facilities across the U.S. and liquefied natural gas tank projects globally. He also has been responsible for quality assurance and quality control programs for major site characterization projects.
Dan first joined Hanson in 1988 and, in addition to providing geotechnical engineering services on a variety of Hanson projects for multiple clients, he managed Hanson’s materials testing and construction quality control department and then the Kansas City metropolitan office. Dan rejoined Hanson in 1999 after a brief departure and was named a vice president and market principal in 2012 and promoted to senior vice president in 2014.
IN DAN’S WORDS
“I joined Hanson after gaining experience with another firm because of its excellent technical reputation, sometimes referred to by other organizations as ‘a consultant’s consultant.’ I left the company after 10 years to move back ‘home’ but returned to Hanson less than two years later because of the people and clients — and that was 25 years ago! It has been easy to stay with Hanson, with hard-working, dedicated colleagues and fantastic clients with interesting project challenges.”
As a senior leader, Dan has spearheaded impactful projects, such as the State Farm Corporate South complex development in Bloomington, Illinois; the Hutsonville Power Station and Pearl Power Plant ash pond closures, both in Illinois; the CapX2020 high-voltage transmission line Mississippi river crossing; the Spoon River and Mark Twain transmission line projects in Illinois and Missouri, respectively; and a number of solar and wind energy projects across the U.S. His client list includes Ameren Corp., Vistra Energy Corp., Invenergy, EDP Renewables, Chicago Bridge & Iron Co., AT&T Inc., BNSF Railway Co. and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Dan’s leadership also notably contributed to the Ameren Illinois Rivers transmission line project, which encompasses more than 385 miles of new transmission lines from Palmyra, Missouri, to the Indiana border east of Marshall, Illinois, with three major river crossings.
Dan is vice president of the University of Illinois Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is a member of the American Clean Power Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, Association of State Dam Safety Officials and the Society of American Military Engineers. He has co-authored several technical papers and articles and has delivered presentations at over 25 seminars and conferences.
