Heyen celebrates 25 years with Hanson
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Matt Heyen, P.E., a vice president and the power operations lead at Hanson Professional Services Inc., recently celebrated 25 years of service with the firm.
Heyen, who joined Hanson in 2001 and works at the Springfield headquarters, is a senior project manager for power generation and transportation infrastructure clients. He provides services including environmental studies, concept and alternative analysis planning studies, engineering design, construction document preparation and construction observation. He has worked on projects across the U.S., including tiered environmental impact studies for high-speed rail for Springfield and for the Chicago-to-St. Louis corridor; the replacement of the eastbound span of the McClugage Bridge in Peoria and Tazewell counties; electric and gas transmission line siting and land acquisition; site development for wind and solar farms; and advanced metering infrastructure systems.
He received a bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics in 2000 from MacMurray College and a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering in 2001 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is a licensed professional engineer in several states, including Illinois, and has a private pilot’s license. He also obtained a remote pilot certificate with a small unmanned aircraft systems rating for use in commercial unmanned aerial vehicle, or drone, operations at Hanson. He received the 2013 Young Engineer of the Year Award from the Engineering Society of Illinois, of which he is a member, and the 2014 Young Civil Engineer of the Year Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Central Illinois Section. He also is a member of the American Public Works Association and National Society of Professional Engineers.
