Hanson supported AdventHealth by commissioning the new Palm Coast Parkway Hospital in Palm Coast, Florida. The four-story, 158,000-square-foot facility contains 80 patient beds, MRI and radial imaging and operating rooms. The building also houses a pressure-controlled pharmacy, laboratory spaces for in-house testing and a fully operational kitchen and eatery.
Hanson commissioned the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and controls systems in accordance with ASHRAE Guidelines 0-2019, Standard 202-2018 and the recommended practices of the AABC Commissioning Group and the Building Commissioning Association. Hanson also follows the Facility Guidelines Institute code and guidelines.
The facility’s chilled water is provided by a 700-ton air-cooled variable primary modular chilled water system with 10 modules. Heating hot water is provided by three boilers with three variable primary heating hot water pumps.
Hanson overcame a schedule impact caused by supply-chain issues, which primarily affected the chiller. Working with the general contractor and team, Hanson adjusted the commissioning scope to align with the construction schedule while coordinating with the owner’s facility staff to avoid negative impacts to the hospital’s operation.
Hanson’s project scope included construction document design review; a review and update of the commissioning specifications to align with the project scope; development of a commissioning plan; RFI reviews; builder submittal reviews; component verification checklists; a review of test and balance reports; a commissioning issues log; a controls integration meeting; coordination with relevant testing and quality control measures performed by other organizations; documentation of the systems start-up; preparation of functional performance tests and integrated systems tests; review and evaluation of the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning test and a balance report; and a review of the duct pressure test, pipe flush and International Electrical Testing Association test reports.
For the post-occupancy phase, Hanson reviewed operations and maintenance manuals and developed a final commissioning report and a systems manual, led a warranty review meeting and issued a final addendum to the commissioning report.
