Exchange Club Island Park pavilions and parking lot, Jacksonville, Florida

Project Summary

Hanson provided engineering design services for additional amenities to Exchange Club Island Park, a 34-acre park in the middle of the St. Johns River with excellent views of downtown Jacksonville and its bridges.

Upgrades included 130 feet of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant 5-foot-wide concrete walkway and 90 feet of unpaved trail. The project included construction of two pavilions. Because of the island’s remote location, the design considered which types of construction materials were available and could be hauled in by barge. For example, the contractor brought the aggregate and cement to the island and mixed the concrete on site.

Services included developing plan specifications, coordinating with the design-build team, field reviews, permitting and construction assistance.
