SR 15 at SR 16
Project Summary
The intersection of State Road 15 (US 17/South Orange Avenue) and State Road 16 (Leonard C. Taylor Parkway) in the city of Green Cove Springs needed improvements to improve safety, traffic flow and access for area commercial businesses.
Hanson designed several upgrades at the intersection, including new dual southbound left-turn lanes on SR 15, widening SR 16 to four lanes, traffic separators, updated yellow and red clearance intervals, and upgraded traffic signal assemblies and pedestrian features.
Hanson’s drainage engineering services involved ditch reconstruction, minor storm collection system design, cross drain extensions and permitting. Proposed design included implementation of Biosorption Activated Media strips adjacent to the state road 16 shoulders, which provided stormwater treatment through nutrient removal.
The team also provided public involvement to support the project design and created several exhibits for public meetings.
