Village of Hillside (Illinois) Town Center development

Project Summary

As a part of continuing services for the village of Hillside, Illinois, Hanson provided the village a variety of services associated with the Hillside Town Center development.

The Hillside Town Center is a 36-acre retail development located immediately southwest of the Mannheim Road/Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) interchange.  As part of the Metro Gateway revitalization project, the Hillside Town Center development includes 1,568 new parking spaces, multiple underground detention basins for managing stormwater runoff, and new entrances off local and state routes for a new hotel and 21 new retail stores.

Hanson provided facility planning for water, sewer and stormwater management improvements and provided a traffic impact study.   Hanson was responsible for developer plan reviews and permitting reviews for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC). Hanson prepared plans for traffic signals and roadway lighting and helped the village secure permits from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).  In addition, Hanson provided oversight during construction.

Traffic engineering services included reviewing capacity, analyzing traffic queue, and determining preliminary intersection geometrics.  The Hanson team also prepared an Intersection Design Study for IDOT approval; temporary and permanent traffic signal design; temporary and permanent ITS communications and traffic signal interconnect design; and the design of Maintenance of Traffic and striping plans.

Additional engineering services included:

  • site investigations to monitor construction of the water system, sanitary sewer systems, storm sewer systems, detention basins, site development, and overall construction conformance to the approved plans,
  • preparation of proposed temporary and permanent interconnect and fiber optics systems for IDOT approval and permit, and
  • integration of as-built information for the development into the village's Geographic Information System (GIS).
