Caterpillar Inc. industrial engineering services

Project Summary

Caterpillar Inc., an industrial giant who builds earth-moving equipment around the globe, selected Hanson to provide a variety of engineering, scientific and allied services for Caterpillar’s Peoria, Ill.-based headquarters.

These services have ranged from air monitoring, structural design, surveying, transportation, geotechnical and foundation design, buildings and facilities modifications, and project management.

Hanson developed the structural design for a highly visible project at Caterpillar’s corporate headquarters, the building of two pedestrian skywalks.  The bridges – one 142 feet long and the other 102 feet long – straddle two downtown Peoria streets.  These pedestrian skywalks provide Caterpillar employees and visitors with a safe, scenic way to cross the street, protected from traffic and inclement weather.

In addition to design services, Hanson also performed geotechnical studies and developed a scheme using auger cast pile foundations.  We also provided construction observation and weld inspection services during the bridges’ construction.

Hanson also has completed many projects dating back to the 1980s at various Caterpillar facilities in the Peoria area.  In addition, Hanson was part of the design-build team that provided more than a dozen severe weather shelters in four states.
