Torrey Pines Molecular Research Center Cx

Project Summary

Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies (TPIMS) is a research center dedicated to conducting research, advancing the understanding of human disease and the improvement of human health. The center’s research includes a variety of major medical conditions, including multiple sclerosis, Types 1 and 2 diabetes, AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, chronic pain, heart disease, cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

In 2006, TPIMS announced its intention to move its headquarters to the Florida Center for Innovation at Tradition in Port St. Lucie, Fla.  In 2007, TPIMS’s project broke ground for a 107,000-square-foot biomedical research center with approximately $4 million in equipment.

Serving as the Commissioning Authority for the mechanical and electrical systems for this advanced facility, Hanson commissioned the HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, fire alarm and related life safety systems.

Part of the owner’s criteria for this new facility included obtaining Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver certification status through the U. S. Green Building Council.  Hanson completed the LEED® documentation for commissioning services to assist in achieving the building’s certification.
