Project Summary
The Hoogland Center for the Arts in Springfield, Illinois, is an 80,000-square-foot building constructed in 1908, with a 1960s-era addition. The facility housed a Masonic temple before Springfield Arts Center Inc. purchased it in 2003 and renovated it.
Hanson performed retro-commissioning services for the Hoogland, evaluating the facility’s energy-using systems and identifying low- and no-cost energy conservation measures. Hanson completed the study under the local electric utility company’s retro-commissioning rebate program.
The Hoogland consists of three theaters, a club room, costume and stage prop storage areas, an art gallery, a commercial kitchen and catering facilities and a dining room, as well as multiple offices and gathering spaces. The combined seating of all three theaters is more than 1,000, with the largest theater capable of seating almost 450 guests.
