Half Moon Island
Project Summary
This project, encompassing a new park on Half Moon Island Preserve, a 267-acre facility along the Nassau River, involved value engineering elements of a previous design. The revised improvements included a fishing pier and a wood timber and pile dock and aluminum gangway for connecting the sidewalk to a waterborne floating dock.
Hanson’s services included revising previous plans to depict the new dock and pier configurations and coordinating permitting with regulatory agencies. Other services included revising a temporary traffic control plan and modifying plans for drainage connections to avoid a gas main that was not located properly.
The new park, which opened to the public in 2020, provides water access to the upper stretches of the Nassau River, while the fishing platform has become a popular spot with anglers, and the picnic shelters provide impressive views of the expansive tidal marsh.
