Project Summary
Duke University’s Levine Science Research Center (LSRC) is a 341,000-square-foot facility. Opened in 1994, the facility houses laboratories, classrooms and offices for many scientific disciplines. At the time of the building’s opening, it was the largest multidiscipline research building in the United States.
In 2008, the university selected Hanson as the Commissioning Authority to commission a major restoration project within this building. The university replaced the domestic hot water and hydronic hot water systems, as well as the medium-pressure steam (MPS) and low-pressure steam (LPS) systems serving the main mechanical equipment room in the building.
The commissioning services included developing the Commissioning Plan (Cx Plan), construction observation (equipment installation and start-up), functional performance testing of HVAC systems, oversight review of operation and maintenance (O&M) training and documentation, and a 10-month warranty review.
