Cusick marks 35 years of service at Hanson

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Robert Cusick, P.E., S.E., recently celebrated 35 years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc.  An executive vice president, Cusick serves as Hanson’s chief technical officer and director of government and commercial services.  He manages four of Hanson’s seven market areas, including Department of Defense; energy and industry; government; and telecommunications.  In 2010, these markets accounted for more than 40 percent of Hanson’s $62 million revenue.

Cusick joined Hanson as a structural engineer, and he has served as principal, project manager and structural engineer on numerous projects across the U.S. and abroad.  He also served as director of the company’s geo-environmental division, and he was named chief technical officer in 1998.

His career highlights include working on the rehabilitation of Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).  Cusick managed all structural aspects of the stadium’s renovation and structural rehabilitation in the 1980s and 1990s.  He also served as chief structural engineer for the design of coal silos in China and as project manager for remedial foundation work for the $4 billion Consumers Nuclear Power Plant in Michigan.

Currently, he is coordinating Hanson’s disaster relief and recovery services for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

In 2008, Cusick was recognized with a Distinguished Alumnus Award by the Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association (CEEAA) at UIUC.  He also was named a Patriotic Employer by the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).

Throughout his career, Cusick has belonged to and served in leadership positions with a variety of professional organizations including the following: American Concrete Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Structural Engineers Association of Illinois, and Prestressed Concrete Institute.

Cusick currently serves on Springfield’s Cool Cities Advisory Council, Illinois Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors, St. John’s Hospital’s Advisory Council, Bank of Springfield’s board of directors, and he is chairman of the Lincoln Land Community College Foundation’s board of directors.

Cusick received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from UIUC.
