Presswood marks five years of service at Hanson
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Joseph Presswood, EIT, recently celebrated five years of service at Hanson Professional Services Inc. Presswood is a civil and railroad designer at Hanson’s Kansas City, Mo., regional office, serving the railway market.
Presswood joined Hanson in 2008. His responsibilities include construction inspections and track, drainage and erosion-control design for railway projects. He has worked on several projects for the BNSF Railway Co., including the Memphis Intermodal Facility, and has provided design consulting services for the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) program. He also conducts precast concrete plant inspections nationwide for the National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA).
Prior to joining Hanson, he was a hydrologic technician for the U.S. Geological Survey while pursuing his degree in civil engineering. He collected water samples to test quality, performed water data analysis and tested Kansas rivers and streams for conductance, turbidity, depth and temperature. He also performed minor repairs at gauging stations, to water level recorders and to other equipment used in hydrologic investigations. He also worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), where he assisted in supervising construction, measured concrete volumes and performed tests on concrete.
Presswood received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2007 and a master’s degree in engineering management in 2012 from the University of Kansas. He is a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, American Society for Engineering Management and the National Society of Black Engineers.
