Hanson’s CEO celebrates 40 years of service during firm’s 60th year

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Sergio Pecori, P.E., president and chief executive officer at Hanson Professional Services Inc., recently celebrated 40 years of service with the company. The firm is celebrating a milestone as well, entering its 60th year of business in 2014.

Pecori joined Hanson in 1974 as a resident geotechnical engineer — and as the 50th employee the firm had hired. He became president of the firm in 1998 and was named chief executive officer in 1999. He directs the activities of senior-level management and assumes overall accountability for the firm’s quality of work. He also has served as a project manager and principal-in-charge for a variety of the firm’s projects.

During his career at Hanson, Pecori has worked on a wide variety of projects in the U.S. and overseas, including railroads, highways, bridges, dams, communications facilities, environmental remediation, low-level nuclear waste sites and U.S. Department of Defense-related facilities.

Pecori received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1973 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering in 1974 from UIUC. In 1999, he was presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award from UIUC’s College of Civil Engineering. He is a distinguished chapter honor member of UIUC’s Chi Epsilon and was named an honorary Beta Gamma Sigma chapter member by the University of Illinois Springfield’s College of Business and Management. He is a licensed professional engineer in six states, including Illinois, and a licensed civil engineer and geotechnical engineer in California.

Pecori has served on the U.S. Department of State’s Overseas Buildings Operations’ Industry Advisory Panel and currently serves on the DOD’s Reserve Forces Policy Board. He also is involved with many professional organizations. He is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and has served as senior vice chairman and treasurer. He received the organization’s Executive Engineer designation in 2010. He is a member and past branch president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and is a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is a fellow of ACEC, ASCE and the Society of American Military Engineers.

During his career, he has remained engaged in many charitable and community organizations, including the Hope School Foundation, St. Martin de Porres Center, American Red Cross and United Way. He serves on the board of directors for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation, Illinois National Bank and Memorial Health System. He also is a member of the University of Illinois Foundation’s President’s Council.

He is actively involved with the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and was named a Patriotic Employer by the agency in 2008. He was a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2007 Award for the Lake Michigan Area.
