Hanson receives award from ACEC of Missouri for work on BNSF’s Memphis Intermodal Facility
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hanson Professional Services Inc. recently received an Honor Award at the American Council of Engineering Companies of Missouri’s (ACEC-MO) annual awards banquet for its work on BNSF’s Memphis Intermodal Facility. The annual awards competition recognizes creative application and quality design by engineering firms.
In 2005, BNSF selected Hanson Professional Services Inc., as part of the joint venture Hanson-Wilson, to oversee the expansion of its Memphis Intermodal Facility to meet the needs of its present and future clients. Hanson provided design, project management, environmental assessment, permit acquisition and construction services that enabled the project to come in under budget and on time.
Using innovative design approaches and the latest available technology, Hanson and BNSF created a world-class facility that represents the future of railroad engineering. This $160 million expansion features state-of-the-art green technology such as rail-mounted wide-span cranes that run on electricity rather than diesel fuel and an automated gate system (AGS) with optical character recognition capabilities that keeps traffic moving, reducing CO2 emissions and increasing efficiency.
ACEC-MO is a state association of more than 100 engineering firms employing more than 4,600 and annually designing some $14 billion in constructed public works or private-sector projects.
Hanson is a national, employee-owned consulting firm providing engineering, architecture, planning and allied services. The Kansas City office is located at 1001 E. 101st Terrace, Suite 250, Kansas City, MO 64131. The office may be reached by phone: (816) 941-2178 or fax: (816) 943-4029.
