Hanson hires intern from Grow Our Own program

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Nick Moore, who previously was an intern at Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s Springfield headquarters through the Grow Our Own Minority Participation Program, has joined the company as a civil designer. He will provide design and drafting services for the preliminary and design phases of a variety of projects.

In the summer of 2014, Moore was one of the first Grow Our Own interns at Hanson, a program implemented by the firm, the city of Springfield and Sangamon County to foster interest in careers involving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by providing mentoring, education and job training opportunities. He assisted Hanson’s infrastructure market with transportation work and returned in 2015 for a second summer internship that included helping with projects such as the Carpenter Street underpass in Springfield. He also was an intern for the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in 2013.

Moore received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in May from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he was a member of the student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Black Engineers.

Hanson is a national, employee-owned consulting firm providing engineering, planning and allied services. The firm’s corporate headquarters is located at 1525 S. Sixth St., Springfield, IL 62703. The office may be reached by phone at (217) 788-2450.
