American Society of Civil Engineers designates Ball a fellow

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Jeff Ball, P.E., F.ASCE, Hanson Professional Services Inc.’s markets leader and an executive vice president, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

ASCE is an international organization that was founded in 1852, making it the oldest engineering society in the U.S. The Membership Application Review Committee elects ASCE members to fellow grade through a review of professional accomplishments and contributions. Out of the more than 150,000 ASCE members, fewer than 3.5 percent are fellows.

Ball, who works at the firm’s Springfield headquarters, joined the company in 1991. He oversees the firm’s seven markets: aviation; federal; government and energy; infrastructure; power and industry; railway; and telecommunications. He also provides leadership for the markets’ business development and develops strategies and resources to enhance and sustain growth and profitability.

Ball is a member and was president of the ASCE Central Illinois Section and its West Branch; in 2012, the section named him Engineer of the Year. He also is a member of the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers’ Capital Chapter, from which he received the Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award in 2015; the National Society of Professional Engineers; the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois; and the American Public Works Association. He serves on Downtown Springfield Inc.’s Board of Trustees and was named the organization’s Volunteer of the Year in 2013. He also is a member of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, the Illinois Municipal League and the Southern Illinois University Carbondale College of Engineering Industry Advisory Board. In 2008, he received the Patriotic Employer award from the U.S. Department of Defense and the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

He has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois and Iowa.
