Conlan spends time virtually with university, middle school students

Wade Conlan, P.E., CxA, BCxP, LEED AP® BD+C, Hanson’s commissioning and energy discipline manager, spoke to University of Florida and Horizon West Middle School students during two virtual presentations.

Wade was a guest lecturer for Bahar Armaghani’s “Green Building Strategies” course for the University of Florida’s College of Design, Construction and Planning. He presented “Evaluating HVAC for Reducing SARS-CoV-2 Transmission” Dec. 1. You can watch the presentation and discussion here. “Thanks to Mike Hess with the city of Orlando for connecting me with Bahar to present the materials on how to evaluate systems for the virus, based on Hanson projects and ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force materials,” Wade said.

On Dec. 3, he talked to students of Horizon West Middle School in Windermere, Florida, about the engineering work required for energy systems at the school in his virtual presentation, “Engineers Make Buildings Come to Life.” The presentation was part of the Orange County Public Schools’ “teach-in” program, which connects students with professionals in a variety of industries. Wade represented ASHRAE’s Central Florida Chapter for this presentation, showcasing engineering as a career path for K-12 students.
