Gary Potts, P.E.
Gary Potts is a senior vice president and railway market principal at Hanson Professional Services Inc. Gary previously worked for Hanson before rejoining the company in 2004. With more than 30 years of experience in the railroad and transportation engineering industry, Gary has worked with clients such as BNSF Railway Co., Union Pacific Railroad, Metrolink and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
As railway market principal, Gary directs Hanson’s business development efforts and operations serving the railroad industry nationwide. He is instrumental in developing programs for major railway clients, which includes business development, negotiations, preparing an annual update status for clients, providing professional technical assistance in various projects and serving as a key liaison between clients and Hanson.
He has served as principal on projects such as Alaska Railroad Corp.’s Port MacKenzie rail line extension in Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska, and Northern Rail Extension between North Pole, Alaska, and Delta Junction, Alaska; BNSF’s intermodal facility expansion in Memphis, Tennessee, and capacity improvement program on the transcontinental main line between Wellington, Kansas, and Lora, Texas; and Union Pacific Railroad’s Global III facility in Rochelle, Illinois, and Proviso Third Main (B2) project from Elmhurst, Illinois, to Melrose Park, Illinois, for the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) program.
Gary is a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association.
